The 2017 Scholar-Athlete Awards Banquet will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center on the campus of the University of Wyoming, Laramie.

Scholar-Athlete Awards Criteria

40% – Grade Point Average (Minimum of 3.0 GPA)
40% – Football Ability
20% – Participation in School and Community Activities
100% – (With emphasis upon leadership)

Grade Point Average – 40%
4.0 – 40 points
3.9 – 39 points
3.8 – 38 points
3.0 – 30 points

Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate Classes
40 Possible Points

*Please Note: A student may have a higher class rank than another student who has a slightly higher GPA if the grades are weighted based upon difficulty.

Football Ability – 40%
Player of the Year in their Classification/Classification Leader
All-State First and/or Second Team
All-Conference First and/or Second Team
Super 25 Team Captain
40 Possible Points

Participation in school and Community Activities- 20%

Student Body President
Any other Class or Student Body Office
National Honor Society President
National Honor Society Member
Yearbook or School Newspaper Editor
Boys’ State Officer or Representative

Scholar-Athlete Special Awards

During the past twenty-three years the Wyoming Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame has honored outstanding senior scholar-athletes from the University of Wyoming and each of the five high school classifications. A total of $329,550 in scholarships has been awarded to scholar-athletes representing the University of Wyoming and 58 of the 64 Wyoming high schools that play football.

Courage Award This award is given to a senior athlete who has shown unusual courage and dedication in overcoming a physical or mental handicap to become a valuable and inspirational member of your football team. This award is not given every year and candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Perseverance Award This award is given to a senior athlete who has demonstrated uncommon motivation, dedication, and perseverance to become a valuable and inspirational member of your football team. If you have seen the movie “Rudy,” you should have an idea of the type of athlete we are looking for. This award is not given every year, and candidates must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

NOMINATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN FRIDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2017. Recipients of the Courage and Perseverance Awards will be honored at our annual banquet to be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018, in the Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center on the campus of the University of Wyoming, Laramie, and will receive a National Football Foundation plaque and a $1,200 scholarship to the school of their choice.  

Other Special Awards Criteria

The Greatest High School Football or UW Football Fan Do you know of any avid high school or college football fans who have attended games in your community for many years, including most or many out-of-town games? Does that fan attend a lot of practices? Has that fan been involved in your booster club/Cowboy Joe Club, and participated in fund raising projects that have benefitted your school’s football program? What other things has that fan done to deserve the title of Greatest High School or UW Football Fan?

The Outstanding Contribution to Amateur Football Award Do you know of someone who has been highly involved in football at the youth, junior high, or high school level for many years? Did he/she serve as a coach, cheerleader sponsor, booster, band director, or member of the chain gang? Have they dedicated years to announcing, spotting, giving free physicals, or taken pictures of players at your football games (and presented players with a picture album or a highlight video at the end of the season?
